The Wayfinder personal navigation system capitalises on the power and versatility of the new Series 60 Symbian-based mobile phones to bring you a personal navigation system offering convenience like no other. Offering complete real-time voice and visual guidance across almost all of Europe with fully up-to-date maps the Wayfinder system ensures you have a comprehensive navigation tool with you at all times.
The Wayfinder application runs on any mobile phone using the Symbian Series 60 operating system such as the Nokia 7650, 3650 or 6600 backed up by Wayfinder`s powerful map and route-planning servers. Each Wayfinder pack consists of an Emtac Bluetooth GPS (giving up to 8 hours continuous usage and supplied with an in-car charger) and the Wayfinder application and instructions. You can either install the Wayfinder application to your phone from the CD provided or directly from the Wayfinder server via GPRS (GPRS service and internet connection settings required), once you`re account is activated you`re ready to go. Wayfinder allows you to find destinations using the application on your phone or via your account on their website at mywayfinder.com and save them to your My Destinations folder which can be synchronised between your handset and web account via GPRS.
While on the move Wayfinder offers real-time directions with on-screen displays showing countdown distances, current street, next street, next action and the following action and can perform automatic re-routing in a matter of seconds.
Wayfinder offers this wealth of functionality to your mobile phone by doing all the heavy work on it`s own servers, simple data such as positions and directions are passed between the server and your phone via GPRS so you know that the maps are always up to date and your routes can be prepared in seconds. This system creates surprisingly little traffic too at only 5kb for an average route meaning your GPRS usage bills are kept low and your get your route or re-route in the fastest time possible.
Because the system is wire-free it can also be used on foot and easily transferred to any vehicle you choose. Wayfinder also have call centres allowing you to speak to an operator if you`re ever having trouble finding your destination so you`re never completely lost, a simple text message can be sent to your phone which the Wayfinder application automatically picks up and plots you a new course.
Wayfinder is a subscription based service, the initial pack includes the GPS receiver, application, instructions and one year`s subscription to the UK map and route planning service on the Wayfinder servers. Additional year`s subscriptions will be priced at €99+VAT for the second year and €66+VAT for the third.
